Loving Yourself is the Hardest Thing You’ll Ever Do

“Love your neighbor as yourself.” This is the second sentence Jesus of Nazareth used to summarize the whole Old Testament. Working with students and clients, I’ve come to see why this is difficult.

I recently had a session with a 30-something-year-old client who recognized that he’d never been taught to love himself. He was good at being empathetic and compassionate to his friends and family, so much so that he is considering becoming a therapist himself.
